At Wren, we believe that true success goes beyond creating affordable luxury kitchens and fitted bedrooms. It’s about making a positive impact on our planet, supporting our people and futureproofing our business for generations to come. From reducing our carbon footprint to promoting ethical practices throughout our supply chain, we’re focused on making meaningful improvements and driving positive change for the future.

The environment

Recycling

100% of our solid wood waste is recycled. 95% is collected, recycled and repurposed. 5% is returned to the manufacturer and recycled into boards for our onward use. Over 50% of the wood in our chipboard is made from recycled resources.

Lowering VOCs

72% reduction in Acetone use since 2022. We’ve significantly reduced our use of VOCs by switching our solvent based paints and cleaning chemicals to environmentally friendly water-based alternatives.

Water consumption

90% of water used in our quartz cutting process is recycled. Our efficient water recycling system helps us conserve water, reduce wastewater and support sustainable manufacturing practices. We also recycle and repurpose the majority of our waste quartz for road repair and construction.

Reuse

The legs, sockets and plinth clips we manufacture are produced from 100% recycled plastic that can be used at the end of life, and we recycle all other plastics.

Reducing emissions

Our logistics

Our pioneering triple-trunking method has helped us reduce our road miles by 66%. Demountable box bodies are pulled by one 18 tonne truck with each box able to hold two large kitchens. We also carry out double-trunking home deliveries which have helped to reduce our road miles by 50%.

By integrating the collection of white goods and appliances into our home delivery return journeys, we have completely eliminated the need for a third-party collection service. This strategic change has enabled us to reduce our third-party transport miles by 100%.

We can offer a bespoke reporting system that will give our client’s their total CO2 per delivery per week / quarter or whatever is needed.

We are part of a government backed trial called ZEHID which will trial the use of zero emissions HGVs to drive the UK industry towards a net zero future.

5,000 trees and counting!

Planting for the future

We’ve pledged to plant one tree for every Contract kitchen installed and already we’ve planted more than 5,000 trees across the UK. Our aim is to plant more than 1 million trees (absorbing around 250,000 tonnes of CO2*) over the next 10 years. We also donate trees to our property development client’s landscaping and biodiversity schemes, allowing us to make a significant and tangible impact at a local level.

*according to https://ecotree.green/en/how-much-co2-does-a-tree-absorb, a single tree absorbs 25kg of CO2 per annum.

Powering a greener future

Solar success

In 2022, we opened our brand new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility – equivalent in size to 13 football pitches! The site features the latest energy-saving technologies, including one of the UK’s largest roof-mounted solar panel systems and with an installed capacity of 600.22 kWp.

This solar array helps avoid approximately 139,851 kg (139.9 tonnes) of CO₂ emissions per year by generating clean, renewable electricity on-site. These avoided emissions fall under what is increasingly referred to as ‘Scope 4**’, emissions prevented from entering the atmosphere through proactive climate-positive action. This investment plays a critical role in supporting Wren’s commitment to achieving net zero, reducing both operational emissions and contributing to wider decarbonisation efforts.

**’Scope 4′: These are known as ‘avoided emissions’ and are sometimes referred to as ‘Scope 4’, though not formally recognised under current GHG reporting frameworks.
